An important part of the success of Zigman Joseph PR is its steadfast dedication and contributions to the community. ZJPR was instrumental in the establishment of several Milwaukee institutions, including the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the United Performing Arts Fund, and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Our staff also performs significant pro bono work in the community, helping non-profit and political efforts in the Milwaukee area. 

Issues Management Success Story

 

ZJPR represented a group of local restaurant and tavern owners opposed to the PabstCity development project, which would have converted the former Pabst Brewery in downtown Milwaukee into an entertainment complex with a 10 screen movie complex, a video gaming facility, a concert venue, and other entertainment options. The developers wanted assistance from the city, in the form of Tax Incremental Financing, before moving forward.

 

Local tavern and restaurant owners in Milwaukee opposed the project and city financing because they feared the plan would over-saturate the entertainment market in Milwaukee and harm their businesses. 

 

In the PabstCity case, ZJPR publicized local businesses’ concerns, drew attention to the potential harm to local and small businesses, provided information and background on similar development projects, and kept the aldermen informed through direct contact and constituent contact, even when the proposal seemed slated for approval. At a crucial point in the proceedings, the firm assisted aldermen in developing a parliamentary strategy to delay the vote.

 

After several months of research, phone calls, and written work by the ZJPR team, the Milwaukee Common Council voted July 26, 2005 not to provide city funding for the project.

 

Today, Joseph Zilber's Historic Brewery Works development, located at the proposed PabstCity location, is a national success.
